I also keep forgetting, if you are an archivist (particulary of japanese stuff) or good sleuth i'd love help finding digital copies of the early copies of the Heimin Shinbun newspaper. (平民新聞). From 1904-1908 (Meiji 37-41) specifically. much love❤️! Uchiyama Gudo was known to contribute from time to time and I just cant find any. Please and thank you!

Newest translation! This is another Ichikawa Hakugen piece (it will be him for awhile) expanding on another piece I have yet to acquire, delving into the nature of 自由 (freedom) in both zen contexts and the socialist movement at large. Much love❤️!

Like the lotus flower that grows out of muddy water but stays untouched by mud, engage in life without cherishing envy or hatred; live in the world not a life of self but a life of truth. — Aśvaghoṣa (c. 80–c. 150 CE)

Outrage is the currency of the right. It's justified and probably even necessary to feel outrage. But our ability to hold outrage from a bigger space of kindness, is the measure of effectiveness of our resistance. It's how you disempower the trolls.

I know it sounds inane. I never thought I'd say this. But in this world, walking around with an open heart, and smiling at strangers, are acts of subversion.

That doesn't mean being a pushover. It means protecting softness, confronting evil, yet trying to not harden while doing so. And to have compassion for all the moments in which we try, yet fail to do so.

The alternative is: feeding the flames of rage. And get burnt doing so.

There are two aspects to the Dharma of the Buddha. They are the teachings and the realizations. Uphold the teachings by learning and by teaching, and the realizations by training in them. — Vasubandhu (fl. 4th–5th century CE)
