I'm reading an award-winning scifi book right now and while the writing is good and the author obviously tried to get the science details down, they also obviously didn't do much more than read wikipedia. It's getting painful to read.

Lots of guys married guys. It was convenient. It was a rung on the ladder. Partnerships were evidence of stability. Partnerships were conducive to ad-vancement. It was a career path and a political commitment. Evidence of social responsibility. I'd considered it. I'd even been asked a couple of times, but the psychometrics were below optimum and I'm not desperate. Wasn't desperate. At least, José was tolerable in his own intense way. It was almost nice, having him next to me. The way I'd heard it, having a husband is like having a puppy. You can expect a puppy to pee on the carpet, asleep they're adorable — and awake, they can be fun to play with. A husband, however... I dunno. Everything else I've heard, they're harder to train.

Picked up a scifi novel (Praxis, by David Gerrold, author of The Trouble With Tribbles, The Man Who Folded Himself, and many, many others) about two college students arrested during a riot, who escape indentured labor by agreeing to emigrate to an unknown world (and who quickly marry to improve their odds of being accepted for emigration).

I was expecting some adventure, maybe some romance. I wasn’t expecting unnerving relevance.
