@georgetakei Ms. Longwell is NOT a liberal. She came into politics when Republicans had a fundamentally different understanding of their role in the American body politic. Today's Republican party is entirely different from the 80s and 90s, and while some abhorred them they, they would hate what their party has become today. They would hate that all the strength and bravado they tried to project outward would be turned inward toward other Americans.

He's shirking the checks on the Executive branch by the Judicial branch.

The Legislative branch is shirking their own duties to impose checks on the Executive branch.

Those are the constitutional remedies that I know of.

Who reigns him in when all the constitutional mechanisms have failed?

@georgetakei US is currently in a very similar situation to Germany in the early 1930s. Hitler was also seen as a clown and a fool (i.e. the failed and probably gay painter and methhead). Now it's up to the US population if they're okay with a 2030s version of the US which is very similar to the 1940s version of Germany.

@georgetakei And I’ve known a number of people with numbers tattooed on their arms. They were young when they got them, and spent their lives trying to make sure it never happened again.
My great-grandparents were fortunate enough to come to America well before that, but they were escaping the pogroms.

@georgetakei The one book I kept from my time finishing up my history major in 1987 was "The German Catastrophe" by Friedrich Meinecke." The author was problematic in many ways, but it detailed - from the perspective of a German a decade after the invasion of Normandy - how exactly the German people were led down the path to fascism.

It took Hitler almost 6 years from taking over to the invasion of Poland to kick off WWII. Trump is trying to do it in 6 months.

For myself, here in Canada, it’s sheer terror every day hearing new horrors.
