Buddhistdoor Quote for Today:

The human mind is always searching outside itself and never feels fulfilled. This brings about unwholesome activity. Bodhisattvas, on the other hand, know the value of having few desires.
They live simply and peacefully, so they can devote themselves to practicing the Way. — Discourse on the Eight Realizations of the Great Beings (Translation by Thich Nhat Hanh)

> The violence of the system is much more destructive, much more harmful, although it is well hidden. We call it institutional violence. By calling ourselves nonviolent we are against all violence, but we are first against institutional violence. --Thich Nhat Hanh

Buddhistdoor Quote for Today:

In the Lotus Sutra it is taught by the Buddha that everyone has the buddhata, buddha-nature, within, and you are a buddha. There is a baby buddha waiting in you and you might lead your daily life in such a way to allow the buddha in you to bloom, like a lotus seed. — Thich Nhat Hanh (1926–2022)

Buddhistdoor Quote for Today:

In Buddhism, the word “emptiness” is a translation of the Sanskrit sunyata. It means “empty of a separate self.” It is not a negative or despairing term. It is a celebration of interconnectedness, of interbeing. It means nothing can exist by itself alone, that everything is inextricably interconnected with everything else. — Sister Chan Khong

Buddhist Quote for Today:

It is ridiculous to say “Wait until I finish this, then I will be free to live in peace.” What is “this”? A diploma, a job, a house, the payment of a debt? If you think that way, peace will never come. There is always another “this” that will follow the present one. If you are not living in peace at this moment, you will never be able to. — Thich Nhat Hanh (1926–2022)

A 𑐴𑐶𑐟𑐶 (hiti) is an ancient Newah urban water feature: a stepped, sunken courtyard with waterspouts and a central pool. These are fed through a remarkable network of pipes, reservoirs, and irrigation systems drawing water from mountain springs dozens of kilometres away. Every day, hundreds of people from the neighbourhood come to draw water, bathe, and exchange news. They are a unique and precious feature of Newa urban architecture through which neighbourhoods are created.
