Daikon-daki festivals are held around Japan. Guests have a choice of purchasing a bowl of stewed daikon, or buying a whole daikon to take home and cook.

Blessed daikon at Daihoon-ji. On December 7th and 8th they are consumed to fortify the body at the start of winter.

The 'Radish Boiling Festival' (大根焚 'Daikon-daki') is particularly popular with older people.
Many take the time to pray to a statue of 'Bokefuji Kannon' (ぼけ封じ観音), a bodhisattva believed to protect against senility.

During a Bodhi Day memorial during the Kamakura period at Daihōon-ji it's recorded that the 3rd abbot, Jizen (慈禅上人), took 4 radishes, cut them in half and drew the Sanskrit character for Buddha on each.

He then distributed them as a prayer for good health.

A 𑐴𑐶𑐟𑐶 (hiti) is an ancient Newah urban water feature: a stepped, sunken courtyard with waterspouts and a central pool. These are fed through a remarkable network of pipes, reservoirs, and irrigation systems drawing water from mountain springs dozens of kilometres away. Every day, hundreds of people from the neighbourhood come to draw water, bathe, and exchange news. They are a unique and precious feature of Newa urban architecture through which neighbourhoods are created.
