Good news for #Caturday: apparently, the success of the animated film "Flow" has increased adoption rates of black cats (which are hard to home, because people are superstitious). Reportedly, the film “Black Panther" had a similar effect.

I'm not entirely happy that people are choosing cats for faddish reasons, but I do like the idea that deserving black kitties are finding homes.

Black cats are as lovely as any other cats (& so elegant); take one home today.

The term “Ship’s Cat” is misleading. A patrol boat or a small freighter typically numbers a single cat in their complement [citation needed] but larger vessels have a feline complement numbering around one cat for every ten biped crew. Besides rodent control, cats also serve in meteor defense where their superior visual acuity and reflexes make them unmatched. On military vessels cats report to the Chief Petty Officer (feline), and ultimately to the Port Admiral’s Cat. While cats serving in the officer corps is not common there is one known case where a ship’s cat assumed command of a vessel during battle, after a direct hit on the main bridge. Commanding from the secondary bridge, CPO(f) Tigger Malone successfully fought off a pirate attack on the merchant convoy being escorted by her ship.

Galactic Patrol vessels serve milk at supper on Tigger’s Night in memory of this hero of the patrol.
