Captain John "Blackjack" Geary has come back from the dead, or suspended sleep anyway, and has to take control of an Alliance battle fleet in its war against the Syndics. Ambitious fleet commanders try to one-up him at every turn. Cheesy love interest with a politician who for some reason was on the flagship of the fleet. Many battles. Sneaky strategery. Content Warning

#FinishedReading this great mess of a book. The first act is a nearly plot-free wall of exposition that I only stuck with because I've enjoyed other #NealStephenson before. The second act, with its focus on the character of Nell and her 'magical' book, really clicked me for me and sucked me in. And then the final act was an avalanche of plot developments and the characters went missing. Disappointing. #Bookstodon#SciFi @bookstodon

I'm working on a detailed recreation of the 1906 original first-edition cover of Andrew Lang's Olive fairy book. I have found some detailed photos of the front, but I'm struggling to find a good image of the spine, which should also have a charming illustration of hugging fairies and a bat. I hope someone out there might have this book and is kind enough to take some pictures of the spine?

I finally read this beautiful character-driven sci-fi about a species-diverse team that's hired to tunnel wormholes and is heading toward a big, dangerous job. On the journey, they become a close-knit family, even the most antisocial outsider among them. A deep, socially-conscious, and powerful portrait of deep relationships and so many big issues.
