#PPOD: NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope captured an uncommon sight – the death of a low-mass star – in this image of the Calabash Nebula released on Feb. 3, 2017. Here, we can see the star going through a rapid transformation from a red giant to a planetary nebula, during which it blows its outer layers of gas and dust out into the surrounding space. A long, gourd-shaped planetary nebula seen in orange with a white center piece stretches from upper left to lower right. At each end, the interstellar gas has been compressed by a shock wave, shown in blue, with the lower wave being much larger than the upper. Numerous blue and white stars are scattered throughout the image.

Hiti

हिति , in Nepāl Bhāṣā, is the word for a shared community water tap. Even in modern Newar cities, these ancient structures still pour out fresh mountain water piped through ancient underground filters and conduits. They are a place to wash, to talk, to drink, to meet the locals: a nourishing, refreshing social-ecological place.
