That’s not how you science.

Tweet from Republicans Against Trump says: “RFK Jr: There’s no proof that Tylenol causes autism. We’re doing the studies to make the proof.” Below is a photo of a White House meeting showing RFK Jr., Marco Rubio, and Donald Trump at a long conference table.

@georgetakei

They are "doing the studies" on how "to make the proof".

@georgetakei I'm curious how they'll explain in the predictable results why not everyone is autistic.

@georgetakei Wait, what was that Tylenol press conference about? Is he afraid Tylenol is planning to sue?

I remember a time when these guys used to say we should not trust the government for information, but that we should trust the private sector.

What happened?

@georgetakei it's how the Cass study came into being. Policy-led evidence making.

@georgetakei Well, actually yes. You "make up" a hypothesis about something and then you think about how to prove your hypothesis. And then about how to prove that your proof is really what it is.

In his case though, the process ends at "Make things up"

@georgetakei that's how Nazis have always scienced.

(See: the "proof" of different races having different cranial capacities by using different diameters of ball bearings to measure them.)

If I was still teaching stats and design, I'd be thrilled with so many examples of what NOT to do. More than one of my professors dedicated an entire class to the fallacy of drawing broad conclusions from public health research like this.

Hiti

हिति , in Nepāl Bhāṣā, is the word for a shared community water tap. Even in modern Newar cities, these ancient structures still pour out fresh mountain water piped through ancient underground filters and conduits. They are a place to wash, to talk, to drink, to meet the locals: a nourishing, refreshing social-ecological place.
