I assembled/painted the Commlock just over a year ago, and I finally got around to putting the Stun Gun together this week! I think they came out pretty well! 😊 #space1999 #modelbuilding #painting #scifi

@evildrganymede

Nowadays some crazy hardware hacker could actually fit a small video screen with video clip playback into that Commlock model.

@nyrath they did that in the 70s as an actual prop in the show too!

@evildrganymede

Indeed they did!

However, in the show, the screen was fed by a fat coaxial cable that was fed into the base.

Current hobby technology can have all the electronics self contained in the prop, fed by a micro SD memory card, or wifi, or something.

@nyrath @evildrganymede there was an interesting article I read a number of years back on how they synched up the video screens to the film cameras to prevent the interference bars from showing up.

See also how the "iPads" in Space Odyssey stayed on the tabletops, because there was a projector underneath, providing the screen display.

(Same for all 2001 displays)

@nyrath @evildrganymede Reminiscent of how the flatscreens in "2001" were done with hidden rear-projection.

Hiti

हिति , in Nepāl Bhāṣā, is the word for a shared community water tap. Even in modern Newar cities, these ancient structures still pour out fresh mountain water piped through ancient underground filters and conduits. They are a place to wash, to talk, to drink, to meet the locals: a nourishing, refreshing social-ecological place.
