When my grandmother found out that my Dad’s cousin James had contracted polio, she freaked out, thinking he might get it.

Salk would later use the virus taken from James Sarkett to make his vaccine, putting Daisytown, PA on the map. People were so relieved. It’s a shame people can’t remember those times.

@georgetakei I try not getting into US politics or any politics but it’s curious that I made this the very day before I heard about this dangerous rubbish. #Vaccines should not be controversial. Vaccines save lives. I and countless others would be dead without them. Vaccines are a victim of their own success. They are safe and effective. Even the rare cases where something goes wrong it’s usually better than the disease including death. #polio is awful as is #measles and others!

@georgetakei Let me get this straight, the advanced nation with the most ruinously expensive healthcare system in the world, one that doesn't even cover a large part of its population, wants to re-expose itself to preventable diseases that would put huge numbers of children in hospital for weeks, months or even years and would kill many of them?
