A common complaint people make about #SpaceOpera is that planets always feel so tiny and have only as much going on on them as in a small town at best.

But I think that's an automatic consequence of the most basic premises of this genre. When fairly ordinary people can have a space ship and just take off to leave the star system in 30 minutes, then every point anywhere on the planet can be reached in 10.

Distances on a planetary scale cease to exist. Everything is right next door.

It may veer from Asimov's books a bit, but I was dreading that Apple would be as daft as Netflix were with The OA and shaft their unusually intelligent and increasingly engrossing Foundation sci-fi series.

Thankfully, they have proven wiser than Netflix.

I just wish HBO's intriguing Raised By Wolves had been able to live up to its potential too.

"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-two million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea."
