Content Warning

I've had an interesting day. First day working in a disused lead mine. Clearing shale off the floor. Few photos because it's an unbelievably filthy, dark, cramped place to work. Hats off to the miners of old who drove this tunnel and hundreds of others with pick and shovel.

I didn't have the right clothing (dressed for the cold outside) so quickly started to sweat buckets. It's best to wear next to nothing as long as its waterproof and can stand getting coated in mud!

Inside a mine level, the scene is lit by my helmet lamp. There are dark limestone walls, a floor thick with shale and mud and a roof barrel vaulted with thin, buff colour sandstone. Everything is wet. A man in waterproof overalls, coat, helmet, etc, is posing holding a mattock against the side wall. There are two yellow plastic trugs on the floor and the handles of a wheelbarrow are visible. Everything is also coated with a thin layer of wet shale mud.
