hey everyone, #askfedi, but in particular people who write a lot of #scifi
i am currently partaking in a freeform sci-fi roleplay setting with my friends, where we play as people on a decommissioned "dying town" space station inside an asteroid. my character is a former partisan who fought against a technofascist occupying force and fled here after a tragic loss, and is on the run from the authorities. is there anything i should research to make my character more convincing?

It's a bit dense but it has a lot of information about realistic space tech and also guidelines for futuristic society etc.
the setting is entirely improvised, like jazz. we come up with our own stuff. overall technological level is kinda Elite Dangerous/The Expanse maybe?
I low-key had an idea to do a cassette futurism thing, like in Alien, where tech is analog or at there's a symbiosis of analog and digital tech
the things i am asking for is:
- knowing more about tech
- knowing more about what society might look like if we ever venture into space this far, and how it would look
- knowing more about partisan/rebellion combat and tactics
- effects of PTSD and trauma on a person
- knowing more about derelict or dying towns
- knowing more about space
- knowing more about illegal/grey legal/black market stuff/the criminal world and how it works
all so i can roleplay him convincingly
