Tacoma Buddhist Temple deeply benefited in its early decades from the Puyallup Tribe's friendship. When white settlers prevented Japanese Buddhist immigrants from farming, the Puyallup provided opportunities to farm and thus survive. Similar situations happened with other temples in the region.
