Actually no, it's been like this the whole time. Since the dawn of agriculture, humans resisted the changes that involved more disease, strife, torture, domination and death and we're descended from the ones that didn't listen. We all participate in the absolute scam that is money, bending over for tyrants every minute of our born lives, and now we're all surprised pikachu face? Don't make me laugh.

Being German and old I got asked so many times why my parants or grandparents didn't do anything to stop Hitler.

Well, now the US can find out....

ICE is the new Gestapo, the prisons in El Salvador are the new concentration camps and somewhere in America there is the latino Anne Frank hiding from the Gestapo.

Let's hope that this time te fascists can be stopped before they set the world on fire.

@georgetakei sadly, if things continue to go the way that The Heritage Foundation | Project 2025 | MAGA folks want them to, kids in what remains of the US either won’t get to go to school at all or will be schooled primarily in DoubleThink so that they will simply believe that current (and future) events were all DoublePlusGood πŸ˜•

(I’d say β€œyou can’t make this πŸ’© up” but, well…)

@georgetakei They’ll also remember that mass hysteria, hatred, bigotry, and lots of money from the very wealthy helped elect an incompetent man as President. The Federal government became his personal plaything. He became intoxicated with power, firing hundreds of thousands of Federal workers, alienating our trading partners by imposing ridiculously high tariffs. Our stock market became unstable. He blatantly disobeyed our Supreme Court and legal system. The period was dark.

@georgetakei
I spend my entire day trying to figure out what I CAN do.

What hasn't worked:
Voting
Protesting
Speaking out
Contacting elected representatives

I think the question is more "Why didn't the things people did to stop it not work?"

The answer is that fascism doesn't end without violence. "They" are putting us in a position to do unspeakable things that people like us have never wanted to do.

Ever wonder how most people were able to go on living their mundane lives as best they could while the Nazis were taking over Germany or in the days of the London Blitz or the US Civil War or Caesar's return to Rome or one of the Mongol invasions or any of the other stupendous historical events so consequential, so immense, as to eclipse any concern for petty things?

Well, now you know.
