He’s right you know.

He literally thinks that if you, American consumer, buy a TV that’s made in China, you’ve 'lost money,' even though you got a TV in exchange for your dollars (at a very fair price)." Below this, a tweet by Aaron Rupar (@atrupar

It’s very simple." The image also includes a still from "Meet the Press" showing Trump sitting with a woman in a purple suit, with U.S. and presidential flags in the background. The video timestamp is 0:38, and the caption reads, "don’t need to have 35 dolls, you."

@georgetakei Trade is trust, the world will suffer due to these tariffs, but countries and companies will also start looking for trustworthy trade partners outside the US.

@georgetakei I still think the entire point is to destroy the Western economy in order to help Putin. It's a stupid plan, but it's the only thing that makes sense. If it was just trump being an idiot, the GOP and big business would stop him in a second. They're not afraid of him, they're in on it

@georgetakei I used to think that Trump believed two untrue things: 1) that the country he is putting a tariff on pays the tariff, and 2) that a country we have a trade deficit with is "ripping us off" (when in fact it just means that we like to buy their stuff). However, when he forced Jeff Bezos not to post the tariff-induced extra costs on each product on Amazon, it demonstrated that he actually does know that the consumer pays the tariff, but he doesn't want the consumer to know that.

On the trade imbalances, I have not seen any evidence that he actually understands how trade works. So on that issue it remains uncertain whether the policy is stupid because of stupid or stupid because it's a con.

@georgetakei If there’s anyone on this planet that is still wondering why business after business of the most attractive and successful businessman in the universe has gone bankrupt, I’ve got bad news for them.

@georgetakei Never underestimate Trump's greed. The tariff stupidities may be insanely hurtful to the US, but they provide Trump with a wealth of speculative opportunities for self-dealing, in an environment where he has vastly superior insider knowledge.
