@georgetakei

the committees in question should withdraw the US involvement in these games as hosts/co-hosts

as others point out, athletes insisted on traveling to Russia to compete, which does exactly the same so i don't expect athletes themselves to show much leadership

we've historically seen that most athletes will happily risk everything inc. great expense to their home countries to buy them back... while the athlete keeps all the glory & profit

@georgetakei I wouldn't consider travelling to the US. If the border guards checked my phone they would find hundreds of posts and comments that in normal countries would be considered free speech but these days in the US would be seen as criticism of the orange terror and his Nazi supplicants. Now the country has joined the "Axis of Evil" it has become a no go zone for most of the 95% of the world's population that lives outside the US

@georgetakei

It’s more than a fair question and I would put it to the World Cup organization whatever it’s called that they need to face rather dramatic decision and reschedule this relocate it as quickly aspossible.

The corporate sponsors, especially that they have to reconsider their options at this stage. The World Cup is going to be an unmitigated disaster already.

Three years out is a very long time, but still we’re talking about an Olympics similar to the ones conducted during the 30s

@georgetakei Well, for the olympic games, clearly given that 43 countries are on the 'banned from travel' list that makes it difficult?

But for the World Cup? FIFA has awarded the games to Qatar and upcoming to Saudi Arabia. I think human rights is hardly anything FIFA members actually care about.

At least this time, they can get a beer during the game.
